Myself and many, many others had made the mistakes you NEED NOT make.
DON'T BE DISCOURAGED! There is absolute nothing wrong about residential solar if the investment is
made correctly. This is exactly what my consumer protection consulting service provides,
gaurenteed.
However, as I found out the hard way, federal money brought about many bad actors in the residential
solar space.
I got into the solar industry as a sales rep for a local Colorado solar company. For starters, I had no idea that I was actually working directly for the solar installing company and NOT exclusively for the solar (sales) company that hired me. What this meant for our solar clients was that they would wind up paying extra on sales commissions and if that wasn't bad enough, they were also paying for the 'markup' by the (crooked) installation company. This 'scheme' (unbeknownst to me) basically 'stole' the clients 30% tax credit by over charging the client. I fell victim to this myself by the very company I rep'ed for!! Many solar installation companies still (post tax credit) use this 'shifty' practice, and I would strongly recommend you avoid these types of solar companies. What happens when you unwittingly get tangled up with these bad actors, is that you wind up paying a premium you need not pay. You pay thousands in sales rep commissions (you need not pay). You also, as in my case, pay for 'UNESSESSARY' solar installation markups.
The company who installed my solar was so bad that they took the money and walked away from their 'legal' responsibility to complete the job and left my home's electrical in an unsafe condition where the county had to step in and threaten to pull their license. That was the ONLY reason why they came back to my house to 'fix' their hazardous mistakes, but they still did NOT finish the job! I had to pay 'only' $750 to a competent master electrician to pass the electrical inspection. I use the word 'only' because many others in Colorado had to shell out a lot more money to fix problems caused by these bad solar installing companies. Here are images of the electrical installation violatioins my solar installing company made. It is for this reason I sought legal council and why I have added the 'legal leg' to my solar consumer protection consulting for my clients.
Driven by the widespread victimization of Colorado residents by unscrupulous solar companies (and OTHER bad actors), I was compelled to establish a coalition of ethical solar professionals. This initiative seeks to counter the negative perception of the residential solar experience, which has been tarnished for too long by the actions of bad actors in and around the Colorado residential solar industry
